Public Participation, Advocacy and School Outreach Progromme under Pubic Outreach Component for YAP 'III, in Kondli-II region of Delhi
Delhi Jal Board, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, India has assigned a project entitled to carry out Public Participation, Advocacy and School Outreach Programme under Public Outreach Component for YAP-III to four NGO partners. The project has been implemented by Delhi Jal Board, Government of NCT of Delhi in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The goal of the public outreach programme is to influence people's behaviour and attitudes in order to encourage this change as a means of preventing and managing river pollution in the Yamuna on a sustainable basis including school children, SHGs, CBOs, RWAs, community members, etc.
The Yamuna Action Plan (YAP), one of the largest river restoration projects in the country, is a bilateral project between the Government of India and Japan.
The Japanese Government has provided financial grant of 17.7 billion yen to carry out the project, under the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and this project is being executed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, National River Conservation Directorate and the Government of India. Under the Yamuna Action Plan Phase III, the Delhi stretch is given prime emphasis as it is the most critical stretches of Yamuna, where most of the city’s sewage is dumped. Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) to clean the dirtiest river of the country was formally launched in 1993.
The YAP has so far completed two phases as YAP-I and YAP-II. The YAP-I covered Delhi, eight towns in Uttar Pradesh and six towns in Haryana. Under YAP II, emphasis was on the 22-km stretch of Yamuna in Delhi.
This project under Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) III is located in three drainage zones namely Kondli, Rithala and Okhla in Delhi. As a part of YAP-III, Public Outreach Programme project will be mainly focused on making the public aware of the Board’s activities and seeking public’s participation in the relevant areas of YAP-III project in Delhi.
The goal of the public outreach programme is to influence people's behaviour and attitudes in order to encourage this change as a means of preventing and managing river pollution in the Yamuna on a sustainable basis including school children, SHGs, CBOs, RWAs, community members, etc. One of the most important aspect of the YAP-III is the convergence of other departments and programmes with it.
We request everyone to join the mission to clean and save the Yamuna!
